Living just a short distance from the bush (forest) means I have visitors that just invite themselves into my back yard. It’s mostly just birds and lizards but I do expect to cross the path of a snake someday! I welcome the birds and lizards, some of them become quite friendly, but I’m not so fond of snakes.
This picture below is of a young Magpie that became very friendly. He used to see me inside and tap on the window with his beak, letting me know that he was hungry and would like something from the fridge! His favorites were thin strips of fresh meat, but would also accept dry dog food if I didn’t have any meat in the fridge 😉
Here’s a picture of a Magpie and a Blue Tongue lizard helping themselves to a drink and some dog food.
This picture below is of a resident Blue Tongue lizard relaxing on a cushion from a chair. Wild birds and lizards have it too easy at my place!
Here’s the fattest Blue Tongue lizard gorging himself on dog food. Funny looking dogs in Australia 😉
And last one, a Blue Tongue lizard in my garden, making himself useful! They love to eat snails and other little bugs, so they’re good to have around. My problem is that I feed them too well!
As it’s winter here in Australia, and I’m really good at making excuses, my garden is more weeds than edible plants. I plan to get it ready for planting in the next week or two. I’ll let you know how it goes 😉
