Banana and Berries Smoothie Recipe

fruit smoothies

The thing about being a food lover is you want to eat everything! You can’t make something and not eat it, it just doesn’t happen! Well I know I can’t anyway (I would be very beachball shaped if I was a chef). So I have started substituting meals, usually breakfast, with a healthy smoothie. They’re great to start the day with and they’re ridiculously tasty.

I usually cut out all dairy and sweeteners as the whole point of the smoothie for me is to be as healthy and as natural as possible. If I wanted a sugar hit I would just make a chocolate milkshake. And seriously, you don’t need sugar or milk in a fruit smoothie as they’re tasty enough as they are.

banana smoothiesPretty much all the smoothies I make have at least one banana in them. They mix so well with almost anything.

banana berry smoothieEasy, tasty and healthy, but not always cheap! I would like to grow my own blueberries but I just don’t have the room.

I use banana as my base ingredient and then go from there. Depending on what is in the fridge or what is in season, I'll add and take away things.

Cuisine: Smoothies
Serves: 2
Ingredients
  • 2 smallish Bananas
  • 1 Kiwifruit
  • ½ cup of Blueberries
  • ½ cup of Strawberries
  • 1 cup of Baby Spinach Leaves
  • ½ cup Filtered Water
  • 5 Ice Cubes
Instructions
  1. Wash and peel all of the fruits. Cut the larger fruits into smaller pieces and place them all in the blender.
  2. The water is mostly to get the ingredients spinning around, otherwise not much at all happens when you turn the blender on. Blend for a minute or two until all the ingredients are well mixed and are smooth enough to drink.
Notes
A great tip is to fill sealed freezer bags with enough fruits to just pop into the blender and voila, your healthy breakfast is done. I'm definitely not a morning person, so this freezer bag system has been as revolutionary as sliced bread for me! You'll just need to add a little more water to get it blending and you won't need the ice cubes.

Thanks Miss Sage. It’s super tasty and healthy. I change it up a little each time I make it just to keep things interesting :-)
