I must confess, I feel more than a little unqualified to be talking about cameras and photography, but that’s exactly why I’m posting about cameras and photography; to Learn! I plan to share my food photography discoveries along the way as I learn them.
Up until now I have been using point and click cameras or my phone to take pictures of food and the quality has been fine for me personally. But now that I have decided to share my cooking with the world, I thought I should try to take better pictures.
So I have borrowed a Canon EOS 40D 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera from my brother in law in the hopes that it will suddenly make me a genius food photographer!! 😉 I’m hoping it will do most of the work for me as I really do have a lot to learn. Here’s what it looks like..
I also borrowed his tripod and I bought a few lights on eBay as natural light isn’t always an option. The past few weeks has been a major learning experience to say the least!
Here’s my first attempt at using the Digital SLR Camera for food porn. To make matters more challenging I was using lights as it was dark outside.
Ok, so it was just a piece of toast, but it really didn’t matter what I was photographing, I just wanted to see if I could make the camera work!
I have since been told that it’s a little over-exposed and the lighting could have been maneuvered a little better to eliminate that shadow. I’m not sure why foodies are not so big on shadows but that’s a lesson/discussion for another day. But as a test run I was pretty happy with the results.
Still, so much to learn about all the knobs, dials and settings on the EOS 40D but I think I’m already addicted to it! What do you think of my first attempt?
